I have a 1990 C/K and just replaced the driver side mirror. I went to adjust the mirror and it moves back and forth fine, but I can't get it to tilt back(up and down). Are these mirrors supposed to move up and down? I didn't want to force it and break it, and I couldn't remember if my old mirror adjusted up and down( it broke off going down the road). Thanks for any info.

You don't mention if you have power mirrors or not.

I do recall the C/Ks having somewhat odd manual mirrors where the mirror housing was attached to a 90° bent tube which attached to the door. These mirrors adjusted side-to-side by swiveling the tube end that was attached to the door. They adjusted up-and-down by swiveling the mirror housing itself without moving the tube part. I actually like those better for towing since they are larger and can be adjusted over a wider field of view...even though I have to stick my arm out the window to do it. Adjusting them up/down can feel very stiff but they will adjust. Anyhoo...

If you have power mirrors, my question is when you try to move the mirror up or down, do you hear the motor trying to move the mirror? If so, and all you hear is clicking, I think you got a bad mirror assembly since your hearing the stripped plastic screw failing to move the plastic frame that holds the mirror. A shot of lithium lube behind the mirror to make sure everything is lubed good might help, but if the mirror is new I'd presume this was already done by the mfr.

If need be you can adjust the mirror manually by using gentle thumb pressure to move the mirror. You'll hear the same plastic clicking as you're moving the frame against the screw threads, but they are designed to allow this to prevent destruction of the threads completely such as when you run them to the end stops.

If you toggle the 4-way switch up/down and you don't hear anything at all, I'll bet your 4-way switch has gone bad. Hope this helps!

I have a 90 GMC K1500 with manual mirrors that have the 90 degree bent tubes. They do adjust up and down but I have to admit that mine are hard to move in that direction.
