i have had a 98 gtp for about a month now with no problems. last week it started missing out when i was driving. thr rpms would dropped like it was going to die then bounce back up, lurching when this happened. at idle i almost have to keep my foot on the gas to keep it going. it has died a couple times when i come to a stop and forget to give it gas. it doesnt do it all the time and seems to drive fine then all the suddrn begins to fall on its face. it does lask power under throttle when this happens. when it started, the day before i almost ran it out of gas and installed a k&n open air filter. those being the only two factors i can think of that could have contributed

Sounds like a MAF issue. Unplug your MAF sensor and start the car. Once the idle stabilizes take it for a drive. If it doesnt try and stall, your MAF is bad and your K&N is probably over oiled. Its ok to drive with your MAF disconnected for a week or two as you order one from the net. ZZP has them for 120.00. When mine went bad, I bought a ported throttle body for 199.00. instead of a MAF for 119.99.

thank you for the response. you were right in the diagnosis, i unplugged it and the car drives fine. one question tho, how long can i drive it with it unplugged, or rather plugged in. will it hurt the motor either way, im low on finances to by the maf atm. also if i do go for the ported throttle body, do i have to get a new pcm or can i run it on the stock comp?

welcome to AF Shanger78.
You may see a temporary dip in mileage while running with it unhooked, but it will not hurt anything until you can afford to replace it.

And no modifications necessary to the PCM to run the ported stage 1 t-body. Just remember to swap out the Maf screen from the old one to the new one. I didn't and had some tcc lockup indecision issues untill I put the screen back in.
