2001 Eurovan Auto Trans

I have a 2001 Eurovan V6 Automatic with trans problems. The previous owner said the trans was rebuilt by AAmco. It did not shift properly and now will not move. I took it to a good professional transmission shop and he says it is time for a replacement trans.
The VW Dealer and German Transaxle want about $3500 for a replacement rebuilt unit.
Mine is a code EQJ. Is it possible to replace it with another Code if I include the computer??

I just signed up and its late but I put a trans cooler and I think all vw should have one.
