I have a 1994 rodeo with a V6 and everytime I start it the RPMs go to 2000 or above and after 3 to 5 minutes running it automatically goes down. At idle it goes anywhere from 1000 to 800 rpms. Does anyone out there have a solution to the problem. It has 183000 miles on it also. I have cleaned the fuel injection with cleaner is all I have done to note. Thanks....

The idle air control could use cleaning or replacement. Cars also use the timing to control the timing. A sensor could be out of range and computer is compensating. Is the check engine on?

Hello check engine light is not on. The rubber boot around the cable was sticking and gummed up so I replaced it took care of throttle sticking open on me but still have the issue with the high rpms at anytime startup. Where is the location of the part you mentioned that needs cleaned and what am I looking for. Thanks....

I have a 99 passport and mine does that to, it revs up to 2000 rpm, then dies down instantly to 1200-900 then when im driving after a little while its idleing between 500-600.

No where near as bad as yours.
