junk 305 or not

got a car that has a 305 in it not much on it just the heads and oil pan any way so for the hell of it i looked up the casting numbers and found this

sounds like a good find for free i will be porting them installing new springs seals and pin in the studs
what do you guys think

416s are decent heads for a 305. I wouldn't want them on 350... 327? Maybe...! With some judicious port work and larger valves, this head can make good power.

We try to steer people away from "pinning" heads anymore. It "works", but if you have any trouble with the stud down the road, you're in big trouble. If you're adding heavy valve springs, that usually means a bigger cam. That calls for "screw-in" studs and pushrod guideplates. Any good machine shop can install them for less than $200. "Pinning" is something "left over" from the 1960s.
