Blower only works on High

Afraid to even ask this - pretty sure it's the blower motor resistor. Wife's 2001 Intrigue has a blower issue - it only works on the high setting. I've read a few threads (not too many actually) on changing the resistor and it sounds like a bit of pain, at least getting at it easily.

Any suggestions as to what the problem might be? Also, all recommended fixes and hints toward such are welcome. Especially if there are any "tricks" to easily locating and replacing that resistor - if that is indeed the problem.

This sounds like the blower motor resistor. I haven't replaced the blower motor, but it's located up behind the glove box and I believe it's accessed from inside the car.

At one point in time I had problems with the blower motor and I researched how to remove it, but it turned out it was a piece of electrical tape inside the cage causing noise.

I remember reading a post where someone suggested removing the passenger seat and laying down to work up under the dash.

Yeah the removal is a huge pain. I didnt remove the pass. seat, but it is uncomfortable to lay on your back on the pass, side floor with your legs hanging out the door, body twisted at on odd angle. You will need to remove the 3 tabs holding the carpet like thing in place under the glove box area. From there you can take the little light out and set the carpet thing aside. Oh yeah, disconnect the battery! The resistor is under there though, kinda behind the blower. One plug with 2 wires comes out from it and is plugged into the back side of the blower. It releases by pushing down the tab while unplugging it, you cant see it well so you'll have to do it by feel. The other multiple wire connector is easier to see and remove from the resistor. The resistor is held in place with 3 bolts. They are 5.5mm. You only need to fully remove the front (easy) one, which you can get to with a small socket. The rear 2 are the difficult ones. I used a tiny 5.5mm wrench I bought specifically for this project and a lot of patience to loosen the right rear one. I couldnt get to the left rear one. I pulled back the carpet. Still couldnt get to it. I couldnt get the sound deadening material out of the way either. Since I could not even see the bolt and only had enough room to wiggle a pinkie back there to figure out about where it was I lost the remainder of my patience and figured if the resistor was only being held by one bolt (the resistor slides into place on the rear bolts then they are tightened) if i pulled hard enough it would slide out or the plastic on the resistor would break. I probadly got lucky but it pulled out with a good amount of force. Then I loosened the 3rd bolt to aid with installing the new resistor. I did not retighten that one either, only the 2 that were easier to get to. Also don't be suprised if the resistor from the parts store looks a lot different from the OEM. I'm installing another one tomorrow since the weather stripping below the windshield came loose again allowing water back down through the dash pouring onto the resistor causing it to short out again. Man am I glad I did not retighten that hard to get to bolt now. I had it out in a few minutes vs an hour the first time.
