engine swap

i have an opertunity to purchase a 1999 jeep cherokee cheap it has a bad engine in it. i have access to a 1998 jeep cherokee engine both are 4.0 engines. is this a direct swap or is their modifacations need to be done thanx

Yes, you should be able to swap the engines out directly, with no problems.! 98 and 99 were the same breed of engine and electronics. If interested, I have a complete 99 4.0 w trans, thought it would work in my 89, but no joy. Not with out swapping every bit of electronics out.
