Atf

The manual specifies to use dexron 3, dexron 4 is out, but dexron 3 is still available. It says 4 is compatible with transmission that use 3. I just wanted some opinions on this, because if I buy dexron 3 it comes to 3 bucks per quart while dexron 4 is about 6-7 bucks per quart. I read that dexron 4 has some additives that dexron 3 doesnt, but weather that is true or not I just want to know if my 99' Rodeo will like the 4 more and possibly help extend the transmission life and performance?

Personally, I think the Dex 4 is a slightly thinner weight ATF.

I use Castrol Import ATF for GM transmissions of 2005 and earlier, i.e. Dex 3

I think it really depends on the total mileage of your tranny, and how often you've serviced it.

I do partial fluid swaps every 12-15k miles and currently have 188k on mine, still shifts flawlessly.

I have 95k on mine, i dont think the atf has ever been changed.. may have been a couple of times but i honestly dont know. i bought it used.

Then I'd use a regular ATF Dex 3, do not be putting anything synthetic in there.

AND, do NOT do a transmission flush on that tranny, it will most likely destroy it.

Is O'Reilly a good brand? I've never heard of them before.

I've only ever used Castrol Import ATF found at Autozone or Advanced Auto, think it was somewhere around $3.70/qt or so.
