A/C vibrates

I have a 2000 GM and when I turn on the A/C the compressor (I guess) vibrates when it kicks in. When I run the vent it doesn't do it. Is that the compressor? Why would it vibrate? The vibration only last less than a min. The A/C works great otherwise. Does it hurt to run the A/C? Thanks
