89Civic1.5DX Hatch - Engine coolant Drain Plug

The engine coolant leaks through the drain plug, no matter how tight I shut it close. So need to change it. Problem is, after it is opened / unscrewed, it holds itself inside the collant exit chamber.

How do I take it out to replace it. Once it (the old plug) is out, what's the trick to put the new one in - May be a stupid question but I have never done this on any car.

Use teflon tape and youll be good to go.

Thanks FrodoGT, I'm gonna try it in a week's time. Any idea for the replacement.

I'm pretty sure they're pinch fitted... you need a long pair of needle nose pliers to squeeze the end back together while pulling it out.

My wife's GP had this same POS thing on it.. I promply ripped it out and replaced it with a wing-bolt of the same thread pitch/size... wrapped, of course, in PTFE tape.
