Speedometer problem

For anyone who has the SPEEDOMETER cutting/not working out issue. I see alot if comments/suggestions about the burnt connector but I didn't see anything about the solder joints. The instrument panels are known for the solder joints breaking and causing intermittent or no operation of the speedometer. I have fixed many of these just remove the instrument panel and check the solder joints where the connector gets soldered to the board. You may need a magnifying glass to see the cracks in the solder joint they are sometimes hard to see. Just resolder the broken joints and should take care of the problem.

Yup. Well known fix for multiple instrument failures sometimes associated with no cranking. Haven't seen much about a solder joint fix for just a dead speedo though on this and other forums. Thanks for expanding the possibilities. Look deeper and you'll find videos and pics on how to get at the cluster and refloat the solder joints.

Thanks for the post. I like your signature, that is so very true. I have been part of the JEEP FORUM (mainly ZJ) for a couple years and there are so many unanswered posts because I guess people are just to lazy or don't care enough to post the FIX if they ever get it fixed.

Thanks. Ya, unforunately it's not limited to this forum. In the past I recommended the powers that be at AF put a statement to that effect somewhere in the rules and regs or in the signup but, they haven't listened. So I at least stuck one in my signature. All we can do is plod along throwing out the info and hope people respond with the fix. I'd guess we get the fix about 30% of the time at best. We are very thankful for those who take the time to come back and explain how they fixed their problems. Just wish more would follow suite.
