my axel broke on my 944 and when i was looking around at salvage yards looing for another 944, i found a 94 sl.

the 2 ideas. fix it or part and keep the motor and tranny.

idea 1) it was driven into the salvage yard on monday morning, with a leak. the yard workers stated it's either a valve cover gasket or head gasket, as there's oil in front of the motor on top of the bottom end cover. other than that, everything else on the car is perfect. has a 97/98 aftermarket clone spoiler and new wheels(with brand new tires) the yard wants 1700 for it. then fix it, drive it a few thousand and then sell. only issue is the economy isn't in the best shape, and prices for used sports cars has fallen on their face.

idea 2) i've been thinking up my own idea using a friends c5 vette frame. if i got the car for 1700, i figured enough of the parts could be sold off to make up at least half of the 1700. like i said other than the motor everything is fine. however, in this plan i'd like to keep the motor and tranny. lots of work, but the plan in my head is worth it.

which one is the better idea?

Buy it, fix it, drive it.

I'm with stealthee. Who knows, you way even be able to talk them down a few hundred bucks.

Wort case scenario, you have to part it out or sell it, and i'm sure you'll end up back in the black either way.

that's what my opinion was too, just wanted to see if maybe i was retarded or something.

if you're wondering where idea 2 was going. i've had plans for about 7-8yrs to build a mid engine 6cyl, rwd sports car. it seems the vette frame is the best to choose from, being that once it gets a different layout(mid engine) it can be registered as a kit car...which of course it would be. i've had drawing, suspension idea's, and exhaust. just yet to figure out the engine type other than 6cyl. when i found the 3000gt i said o...3l v6, too bad i cant find a TT motor.

you can always do a conversion.
Thats a big project. What layout do you have planned? are you going to mount it longitudinally or transversely? MTX or ATX?

mtx, i was thinking transverse midengine rwd. the big thing to the 3/s 3.0, in theory the motor just has to be turned around(so the front bank is facing the back of the car), but then the tranny has to kept the same way so that your foward moving gears keep you going foward instead of 5/6 reverse gears and one foward. maybe rear mounted trans like the ferrari v8's. i also thought of getting a fiero, the 5spd in those are very beefy(easily up to 350hp for the gt) but wanted to see how they were mounted.

i think the TT motor woulda been nice for the simple idea that it's turbo'd, and i can get some more power, about 410hp. my porsche mechanic is located next to a custom sheetmetal fabricator(using tools from like 30's/40's and modern ones) who rebuilds body panels for pre WW2 european cars.

it's a big project that'll take a few years, but once done and everything works, and i'm driving down the highway, you couldn't beat that smile off my face.

i've got drawings of the car, and once i was done, i was like shit, it looks like a konigseeg. but's its a cool looking car on paper. i don't like CADD as much as i used to.

what makes the TT idea worse, i know of a TT motor, and can't get it, hot3000 never used hers and it's just been sitting, though probably a wasted motor now, sad too with only 7k on it.

there's plenty of smallblock fieros out there...maybe it would be easiest to just use that drivetrain.

thought bout it, wanna use a v6. something a lil bit different. think abuot the fact that Konigseeg, Mosler, Fiero, all use the same setup, mid mount big american v8 rwd. sure though there are plenty of 6cyl mid mounts, but none that i can say i truely like or would consider buying. building my own gives me the chance to build something i like, and only i have. plus i've kinda always wanted to build my own car, and didn't design the car to fit a v8, not horizontally at least.
