I have a 2000 Grand Prix SE. Recently I noticed that my heat only gets hot when I’m accelerating or going near or over 30 mph. When I decelerate the heat cools. Not exactly sure what causes this. Also my check engine light just came on for O2 Sensor, but I don’t believe that would have any affects on the heat issue.

I just went thru a similiar issue: See http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=927465
Long story short, I would flush and back flush your heater core. I would guess that the higher engine RPMs are turning the water pump faster and then the coolant circulates well enough to allow more heat. I went through a lot of trials and tribulations. But flushing that heater core is probably your best bet.
Good luck

in your SE do you have the 3800, or the 3100? first things first...check your coolant level and for any air in the system...if not, sounds like a possible headgasket.

The 2000 and up SE model should have the 3100 V6.
Do you still have the original lower intake manifold (LIM) gaskets?
