Electrical Abnormalities

Hello all, I seem to be having a problem forming in my '98 GP GT.

Here's what's going on (so far)...

4 days ago: DIC started to dim itself slightly, then brighten up again randomly.

2 days ago: When starting the car at night, the automatic lights didn't come on when the car started, but kicked on about 5-6 seconds later.

Today: First 2 problems still happening, with an added problem of the DIC turning completely black (just the screen, not the lights in the buttons)

Please help me with this, as it's just started this week and seems to be progressing quite quickly. It's getting cold here in IL and I really don't want to get left somewhere with an electrical problem :shakehead

Thanks in advance for any help!

I did just have my ignition switch replaced about 6 weeks ago...

I would have agreed with Tim that it was an ignition switch issue, but since that has been changed I'd say no.

Have you checked your battery cables for corrosion, loosness, and/or the condition of the battery itself? Does your RAP (reserve accessory power) still work properly, meaning that the radio, windows, etc... continue to function after turning off the key until you open a door? You may also want to check the underside of the underhood relay center for corrosion.

hey, I've checked the battery cables/posts, the RAP still works perfectly fine and there's no corrosion on the underside of the under-hood relay center. My father talked to a guy that works at a dealership and he thought it might have something to do with the orange wire in the harness assembly. Could that be the problem, and would replacing the harness be the easiest fix, or maybe even reattaching the wire(?)

The orange wire in what harness? The ignition switch harness?

yes, the orange wire in the ignition switch harness, i have a replacement one sitting right beside me right now, just need time to get it in. Could that be the problem/solution?
