problem with k1500

my 95 k1500 has been giving me trouble. it randomly will start sputtering while i am driving and the only reason it doesnt die is because it is in gear (manual tranny). if i have to stop at a red light it will die, but will start up right after that, albiet still sputtering. it seems to do this for maybe 5 to 10 minutes, then it might not do it again for another day or it might do it the same day again. i figured a fuel delivery problem. i thought it was the wire from the coil to the cap, because i had been tinkering with that wire, but i replaced that wire and it still does it. im hoping it's not the fuel pump in the tank cause that would be a pain in my ass. could it be a fuel filter or maybe a fuel pressure regulator? (i have no idea if it has one, i have never looked into it) any ideas guys? oh if it's any help, it has a 4.3 baby 350

almost every time i had a fuel pump go out in this style of pickup it quit and wouldn't start again only one time i had the luxury of driving one into a garage to change it i have changed a bunch of those fuel pumps if you unbolt the bed and jack it up then you are able to reach the pump while the tank is still bolted in the frame its a lot easier than messin around trying to drain the tank and what not.

The TBIs have a fuel pressure regulator that sits behind the two fuel injectors. It's possible that is the problem, usually a faulty regulator results in poor fuel economy and performance or difficulty in starting the engine. I will warn you that from reading the repair manuals, the spring inside the regulator body is VERY strong. I would say if you cannot compress it by hand or otherwise, then you won't get it back together when you replace it. Of course, unscrewing the bolts enough to test this will probably ruin the gasket and thus require replacement, so fair warning...there's no turning back with this foray. Some replacement regulators include the whole upper TB piece, but will cost much more...might be worth the money in avoided aggravation and/or second trip to the parts store? Any others had experience with this replacement?

I'd also check for correct fuel pressure, your IAC valve, EGR valve, and vacuum leaks. Finally, non-OEM fuel pumps have a poor reputation for reliability, but I'd check the pump's electrical ground first for poor contact or corrosion.

I agree with jdmccright. I had a similar problem with my 88. Mine was everytime I turned left and only left. I thought my truck was possessed. It turned out the ground for my fuel pump was bad. Drilled a new hole and now runs great I hope your problem is as simple
