over drive sensor 1993

I just bought this car from my sister she drove it daily 40 miles round trip to school the overdrive sensor went out 4 years ago so it is disconected. is the sensor in trans thats what i was told and is it a easty fix.

What year? Is it an auto trans? Most autos only use the range switch, also called a neutral safety switch.
