I recently bought an 04 Toyota with the AM6 already installed. According to the manual, to activate the remote start one must push the * button twice. Both my remotes will start the truck by just tapping the * button accidentally. More the once I have found the truck running for nothing.
Any input is welcome, Thanks

Are you certain that if you press the remote start once it will start? You can have that feature changes for one, two, or three pushes of the button to get it to start. Also, there is a feature where you can get it to start itself and run every 3 or so hours. You need to make sure exactly whats making it start on itself.

I am positive of the remote operation. Standing right near the truck, I experimented. Just tapping the start button will start the truck. I have also used the 3hr restart option which seems to work properly. My problem is thatr the user's manual has no programming info and Directs company, does not seem to want users to have this information. It was also installed without the push button, toggle switch or led. All I have to access the unit are the two remotes.
Thanks again

Yes well the AM6 is the "car dealer" version of the viper, python, valet, and clifford units. Your AM6 is probably the same as a 562t valet (if it's 5 years old or newer). In my shop, I use to get a lot of calls with the same issue you state from DEI owners. The only thing I can think of is the timer method being triggered. You shouldn't ever have to mess with the LED, toggle(if there's a working hood pin switch), or the push button. We never left those items in the car unless it was also an alarm. You can call DEI and find a local dealer. Your unit has a lifetime warranty so take advantage of it.

Ponchonutty, my problem is resolved but thanks for your replys.
When the truck was originally bought from the dealer. the buyer wanted remote start but no alarm functions. I guess this is why it was installed with no led or switches.
The problem was that the remote start activation pulse programming was changed from the default two pulse to one pulse. This explains my problem of the truck starting with only one tap of the button.
I was able to obtain a copy of the programming guide to the unit. I added the valey/progamming swith and a led light and then reprogrammed the activation pulse from the one press seting to the three press setting.
Why the original owner never addressed this problem, I have no idea.
I realize too that from this point I can very easily enable the full alarm fuction which I may or may not do.
Thanks again
