'97 Skylark - scanner unit

'97 Buick Skylark V6 3.1 ltr

i have a Hayne's manual and still cannot figure out where the scanner unit is.

my 'check engine light' came on.
the car is running good, checked the gas cap and fluids.

i am going to go to Advance for a free scan but want to know where the unit is in case they don't.

Found it.
Under the dashboard, on the driver side of the steering wheel.
I initialy thought it would be under the hood.
And larger.
