If only there was something to back it up. It was an anonymous tip given to a Fox reporter who decided to make it "true." She has commented on this and it is not something new. Never any evidence, nor anything that suggests she said it other than one anonymous tip for someone. I would feel bad for her too if it were in fact feasible.

This has been pretty big news. I'd like to see it backed up with some evidence though -- technically at this point it's what we would classify as GOSSIP. But then again, the media passes a lot of crap off as news nowadays, knowing people will buy into it. Seriously; does anyone honestly believe a college educated governor doesn't know 1st grade geography? Have these people been spiking their damn Kool-Aid too!?
The claws are out amongst the McCain/Palin campaign people now that the race is over, and obviously they're all trying to protect their own asses. Not to mention all of the bickering over the clothing expenditures. Big friggin' deal. Frankly I don't see how Barack Obama up and taking his campaign overseas to Germany for a rockstar-rally could be considered a justifiable campaign expenditure either (last time I checked, Germany wasn't voting for a U.S. president) but then the media doesn't cover that angle, and history is written by the victors.

I don't feel bad for her. I would have felt bad for our country had she been elected vice president without knowing that Africa is continent. Political allegiance aside, that's just something that a person in her position should know.

She hasn't confirmed or denied the rumour, merely attacked the media for spreading it.
She needs to crawl back in her hole and stop embarrassing your country.

Just to play devil's advocate, I think that one could argue that a trip to Germany gives people in other parts of the world a glimpse of what Obama wanted them to see him as: A president willing to make the connection other countries and other citizens without feeling obligated, i.e. he WANTS to be connected to the countries of the world and he WANTS to make sure that the relationships between the U.S. and those countries is stronger in the future.
But, I do see where you're coming from as well.

She never came forward and specifically said no, but she did say that they were ridiculous claims...I guess most people would take that as denying it. And plus, there is no way you could grow up here...educated or not, and not know that Africa is a continent. Like I said, there is NO evidence...just a someone who said something with no proof at all. She seems to be doing a good job in Alaska so hopefully she can at least keep that up.
And to each their own, but Obama has embarassed me more than anybody...but of course that is for another debate that literally has been beaten to death. ;)

Well actually there are people here who don't know that Africa is a continent, I think it was Jay Leno or Howard Stern who would ask random people on the street geography questions and some of the replies made me shudder

Yeah, I suppose there are some few and far between. As far a Jay-walking goes, it almost seems as if some of those people are just doing it for a comedy skit. I guarantee you if I spent a day walking around the city that there would be next to nobody (as far as adults go) that did not know Africa was a continent. Like I said, even if you just grew up here, it would be almost impossible to not know that. Still just sounds like a media story that brought attention. And frankly, if anyone accepts this statement, that would be the epitomy of selective believing.

You'd be surprised SL. Africa seems to be an invisible continent to most Americans and the American media. A quarter of a million people where displaced from their homes in Congo and became refuges on the day of our elections but our media missed that event.
My 16 year old daughter is president of the local chapter of Invisible Children: http://www.invisiblechildren.com/home.php
As far as Palin goes, she'll be just become another foot note in history and the sooner the better for the the Republicans.

^^Yep, you guys are right there are those. And quite frankly, we have been made into that stereotype. But someone who has been in politics for years, is a college grad, is not going to think that Africa is a continent. Like I said, you are giving all this evidence of what these other secluded minds have said (which BTW there is aprrox. 300 million people to pick from, I am sure you will find some ;) )but still not given any sort of back up as to why Palin may have said it. Yes it is clear you do not like her...fine. Be that as it may, this is still just a person telling another person that made it into a big story. I honestly hope you aren't actually trying to get yourself to belive it is true, regardless of what side of the fence you are on.

Nope, no dumb Americans here.
And I've personally seen students in the university system that can't read properly or operate a computer. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they couldn't name all the continents.

You guys are so funny. Everyone in America is just fat and stupid right? Something the world loves to believe, maybe in hopes of making themselves feel better? I don't know and frankly don't care. The fact is, with a sample size of approx. 300 million people it is going to be pretty easy to take a small sample of about anybody and try and swing some idea that we can be anything. ;) Ever taken a statistics course at a college level? If so I would hope is that one of the first things you learned is that you can take stats, and present them to backup near any side of an argument. So in that case, British people are well-spoken and bright people with a better sense of the world. This video wouldn't say so that is down below. Do I think that is the case with British people? No, I do not. However, if you had never been educated about Britain, and this was your first look at them it would come off that way. Now we could sit here and post videos all night and day showing how dumb one country or another is, but the fact is, that is not even what this thread is about. It is about Palin not knowing Africa is a continent, rather than a country, which still has yet to be proven...and no, a video about other people isn't much proof either guys. ;) Sorry, but your argument is still completely invalid until you come up with some credible evidence. Which thus far, is none.

It's not the jokes, just the timing. The right wing just needs a little time to heal their wounds before they can laugh at themselves again.
