Getting to the head gasket...

I have a 92 Corolla. The engine size is 4A-FE for reference. So I need to change the head gasket. From what I know or think I know, I need to remove the crankshaft. Problem is, I can't because it's stuck... I think. I really don't know. I'm not %100 sure what I'm doing because I just go by experience. So my question is, is there anyway around this? Even if it's harder, I don't care. I just need to get it done. I posted pics just for reference hoping it will help with an answer.

I feel I should give further info just in case I'm completely wrong. Before I started working on the car, I pulled the spark plugs and they were all black. So I cleaned them and put them back in. After I did some work and stuff, I took the car for a test drive for like 5 minutes around the block. Needless to say, the problem isn't fixed. Anyways, I pulled the spark plugs out, and they were all black again. Any reason as to why this may be?

For some reason I can't edit my post, so I have to post a second one. Note the change on the top picture because that's what I changed. Anyways, the book says I have to remove the crankshaft in order to remove the camshaft in order to get to the head gasket.

You don't have to remove the crank pulley bolt. Follow the instructions on the following page (note that your engine's instructions are located half way down the page):

Also, I don't think it tells you until late in the procedure, but only turn the engine clockwise. Don't turn it counterclockwise.

I agree with Brian...removing the crankshaft to replace the head gasket is like getting a nosejob via the rectum.

You mentioned blackened plugs...sooty black or oily black? Sooty usually means the engine is running too rich while oily means an oil leak from either the valve guides or worn piston rings.
