overheating problems PLZ help!

Ok, so i bought a 1995 swift for $400.00 about a month ago, and am really happy with the car. i did a full brake job and the car was ready to drive.

BUT..... last week the car started having a coolant issue. sometimes (not always) the coolant gauge will quickly go from normal operating temp, to straight up, just shy of the red zone on the gauge. the heater will blow air hot enough to weld my eyes shut, and when i trounce the petal in neutral, the gauge will slowly drop a bit, but will quickly rise back up to near the red zone.

several times i have gotten out of the car and checked the rad, and electric fan, one time the rad and hoses were cold, with absoulutly no heat, and the engine was so hot it hurt just to hold my hand near it. every other time i have checked the rad is really hot, and the fan is on.

i tried adding coolant, but it was full, and so was the extra resevoir.

i have tried giving the hoses a squeeze to try and dispel an air bubble that may be trapped, but nothing seems to work.:confused:

anyone who can help would be greatly appreciated.

This problem is often caused by ripping up Redroofs Road too fast.:smile:

I think you have a sticking thermostat, or possibly the thermostat is installed backwards.

Try changing the thermostat. They are pretty cheap to buy and easy to install. Just be sure it is installed correctly. The side with the little spring must face the 'hot' coolant, away from the radiator.

did u chk the coolant properly ?

Its the problem with your radiator fan or you may have forgot to change the coolant in it, and in fact that isnt a problem then there is a problem with the pipe where coolant runs around, it may be blocked or something.
