Hi,
My car is passat V6 1998.
Few days ago, I went to the dealer to check transmission oil. I didn,t have any problems with the transmission before, it worked perfect. My only concern was that sometimes when the weather was cold it took longer to switch from first to second gear. I thought that maybe the oil is low so I went. They checked the oil and added 3 quaters. However, I drove out from the dealer and transmission stared to jump on every gear. I went back on the next day and they said that they checked the oil one more time and they reset the transmission, no codes and no lights on the dash. They don't know what happend but the car behave very bad. Now I feel every gear when car acclerate. They also give me the price for new transmission.
Please help, is this really transmission gone after they added the oil? I just feel like I ruin the car by checking the oil.
Thank you.

vw transmissions take a special transmission oil. Not the oil that gm (dexron) or ford (mercon) or chrysler (atf+4) use that is red. VW transmission oil is mineral synthetic based fluid and looks like veggie oil that you fry fish in.

If you took your car to a non vw shop they most likely put in dexron (red) fluid and have thus ruined your transmission. But of course they will try to say it needed a transmission before they installed the wrong fluid and say you need to replace the tranny at your cost at their fault.

Hi,
I went to volkswagen dealer to make sure that the job is done right. What do you think about transmission mount. I heard that broken mount has symptoms similar to tranny failier. transmission was sealed so maybe they used force and they broke the mount.
what do you think?
there is this symptom - when I slow down there is a clunk before the car fully stop. also sounds like idille problem for a second before stops.
I look for everything since I can't belive that transmission went bad after the fluid topup.

Transmission mounts can cause clunks if the mount is broken or worn heavily.

car needs a transmission. Common issue, the reverse pump in the transmission fails and causes a harsh 2-1 downshift when coming to a stop. Luckily your transmission is only 1200 rebuilt. Mine in my a6 is 2200.

You might be lucky to find a used transmission on ebay or a local salvage yard

I wanted to finish this thread. I went to different vw dealer and they checked the level of the fluid one more time. It was loooow, they added almoust 3 liters of the trans oil. I wittnesed it. The car runs perfect from this time. No problem with gears. So it looks like they drained the oil at the first place. Is it amazing????????
