sorry but my key broke

This is the largest thread on AF, so i decided to head here for the publicity. My key broke for my 77 triumph spitfire & i was wondering who to call for a replacement/ about how much would that cost, thank you. sorry for the off-topic post

hmm thats a doozy, well since triumph is no longer a company, calling them wouldnt help, id say if you could, try and get the piece that broke off and try to bring it to a keymaker and see if he can match it up and cut a new one, other than that, you may have to buy new sets of ignition locks, and door locks.

my uncle is a locksmith and i am pretty sure on cars..... on the door locks they will take off your panel and read a number that is on your lock and then go to thier computer and type in the numbers and make you a new key but they also will have to pull out the ignition to get the key out.....its goin to cost you a pretty penny lol.....at least thats what my uncle would do i am pretty sure cause i used to help him out...hoped that helped

You just said that its broken so we kinda need more. Is it stuck in the ignition or your door lock or anything or is it just broken. If its not stuck than it shouldnt be too much of a problem.

I'm not familiar with the locks on the Triumph, but if you're lucky, the door lock and the ignition use the same key.
If you can take apart the inside of your door panel and remove the lock, you can take that to the locksmith and have him make a key. He's got a super-secret book (available on some pirate websites) with all the codes that might appear on that lock, and can make you a key on the spot.
If you're not so fortunate to have the ignition and the doors use the same lock/key, then it gets more complicated.

my old MG had seprate keys for the ignition and door locks ... I dont think there are many older cars that use the same key.
