On my PTCruiser there is a series of steps to make the check engine codes to be displayed on the dash. I had to turn the key on, off, on, off, three times in a row then the enginde code would scroll across the dash.
Is there a way to check the 2000 ES300?

I'm not aware of that capability on the ES300, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist if yours is equipped with a driver information center.
Alternatively, if you can drive the car to a parts store, most stores have a OBD scan tool they can plug in for free and read the codes for you.
Cheap scan tools (code only) can be bought, too. THe better ones show the code and description. Best ones will record actual sensor data and show it graphically in real time.
You've got many options. Hope this help!
