reflections are hard to do because it is a matter of not putting too much in --but also not putting too little. If you go too far with both the work isn't convincing.

reflections only need to be convincing; not entirely 100% representational of what is there. If you can fool the eye well enough, the viewer will not really question the drawing much.
Here is a suggestion (a suggestion only as it is not my piece):

i like where you went with ur 1st example. sometimes i just get stuck. as for the bumper i wasnt sure if i shoul keep it simple, or something reall involved. like some of my previous stuff.

I agree, the first one is better. 2nd one is a tad overdone. See what I mean? Reflections cannot be too overboard, but they cannot be too restrained or too weirdly shaped on the metal. They are very difficult to pull off.... at least in my opinion.

if you go too involved on the purple truck's chrome bumper, it may compete with the body reflections --as this is a study in the purple paint job and it's reflections.
the pic of the red truck is more about the front of the truck and not the entire body; the reflections on the red paint are much simpler and almost non-existent. the bumper, grille, headlamps, then make up for this by showcasing tremendous reflective content.
if you then go this route with the purple truck, I fear a heavily reflected and worked bumper will compete for attention and detract, being too busy.
you can try it, but I think the bumper on the purple truck should be done very simply and efficiently.

thanx. i agree. i didn't really look at it like that. But when I was doing that. It was all about the bumper and the front wheel. Not even the lights and grill. they just had to b ok. i actually never finished it either.

Yes, the red drawing is more about the chrome and not the paint. You have to look at a drawing as if it were a theme selling something; ie, what are you showing off the most; what is your theme.
In the red truck drawing, it is clearly all about the chrome, the front particularly. Because you chose a low angle that favors the 3/4 front view where all of the busy chrome is, and you chose to downplay the body of the truck, your theme of the day was chrome whether you consciously knew it or not.
Therefore if you made the paint just as busy, the drawing may have looked very tortured and unsettling to the eye. You have to deliberately guide the viewer's eyes to certain places. And then create a balancing act. Art is all about balance and the creation of effective tension and harmony (sometimes this is achieved through the use of disharmony, paradoxically). The red truck could benefit, perhaps, from some more working of the paint, though, but not much. You must balance it with the chrome. In some ways, the chrome totally dominates the picture.
I know you already know all of this, but I thought I'd say it anyway for our viewers at home

nice treatments.
i still dissent about the hood reflection area, with the very dark purple on the top of the hood. for me it's too dark and leads the eye too much only to it.
but that is my opinion only; I'm nit-picking. in general it looks great.

I understand.
I have to configure a shopping cart within a back-end admin environment to get my site fully operational. And it's something I've been avoiding because it's so tedious and unartistic and boring.
But the longer I wait to do it, the longer my plans for my site, and future creative projects, are dead in the water. I have to go deep into my left brain and I hate it.
