Hi, My wife's 98 TS has 211K km. When she takes it on the hi-way, it has a P1870 code. What usually goes wrong on the 4T60E's? Thanks

Were they still using the 4T60-E in the vans for the 98 Model year?

With the miles you have, it could be 4th clutches, Could be the TCC Valve Bore wearing... With the miles it may be close to due for a rebuild..

* Edit *

Noticed you said 211Km... It sound like a TCC Valve issue... But it is possible to have issues with the 4th clutches.. Hard to say for certain..

You may need to look and see what amount of slip you have when the PCM commands the TCC on 100%, slip should be very minimal..

Went through this on my 97...

It was the TCC solenoid. I bought a new solenoid in a kit from Rock Auto, they just happened to be a lot cheaper than any local sources and are always my backup if i can't find something. I know i mention them a lot in my posts but i figure it might help someone as they always help me!

Anyway, took it to a mechanic that i use when i don't have the time or tools to do something and i'm glad i did, wow what a job. You have to take the whole darn drivers side apart and drop everything down a bit to get the side cover off the trans to get to the valve body. We checked the bore that the solenoid sits in and it was fine, the solenoid was just shot. Before we went this far i tried treatments and such in the trans fluid. It would help for a while and then quit again.

Put in the new solenoid and nearly 10k later no problems yet. Knock on wood!

The part wasn't that bad cost wise, but i had nearly $200 labor into it because of a few fastener issues in getting it all apart ate up a lot of time.
