1998 Honda Accord 4 Cly. I understand this bolt is diffcult to remove. The question is do I remove it to the left as a normally threaded bolt?

Yes, this is a normal thread.
Turn counterclock to remove.
Keep in mind that it is torqued to 181 ft/lb. You most likely will need a special tool to hold the cranckshaft from rotating.

There is a external fitting socket that fits into the crankshaft pulley that will hold the crank while you turn the bolt if you don't have a air impact wrench. They can be difficult to get it loose. Changing timing belts takes skill and tools. If you are limited in one or both, it is best not to attempt this job without onsite assistance.

I use 4 foot steel pipe and it does the job.

The steel bar extends the breaker bar for the nut. The external socket holds the pulley while you crank on the nut.

Purchased the external fitting socket from NAPA $30.00. Worked great, was able to get the bolt loose using breaker bar and 2 foot pipe. Completed the water pump replacement.
thanks for the advice.
