pinstriping removal

Im just curious if anyone has a better solution for removing pinstriping. I've been using this acry solution to sort of dissolve the old stuff. It takes forever to do and kind of dissolves my skin too:yikes: .

Have you tried a hair dryer? Place the hair dryer over the pinstriping in sections and it should lift off the car pretty easily. Don't leave the hairdryer in place too long but rather move it continuously over the section of striping you want to remove.

that is really the only way and after use wd40 to remove the residue

Thanks for the help this solution sounds much easier. I'm not sure how good this would work though cause the pinstriping seems to have become a part of teh paint. I'll try it anyway though

Another thing you can try is a spray can of 'Sticker Shock' by KleenStrip (you can get it at Autozone). This loosens up decals, bumper stickers etc to be removed from a car (it really makes the job quick and easy). Plus, it works great on 'cooked on' pinstripe.

There is also a rubber type wheel that you can mount to a drill to remove decals and pin striping.
I picked up one at a auto body supply.
Just be careful and use a light touch or it will burn through the paint.

I was at my local A C Delco warehouse today picking up some filters for my vehicles when I noticed a display of products from the makers of PB Blaster. Apparently ,( for which I didn't know before,) this company has a whole line of products to meet various needs in both the automotive and small engine world, including a spray on product to remove decals, and pinstriping. If it's anything like the original PB Blaster then it should do a really good job. I tried to find it on their website, but couldn't at this time.http://www.pbblaster.com/productlist.html

also if the hair dryer dont work use a heat gun but dont let it sit on the paint to long or it will burn. but if your gonna paint the car just wire brush em off sand them prime and paint. i remember you said it was painted some ford blue give me the details on it and when it was painted and i might be able to help you mach the color.that way you can paint the trunk like you wanted.

ok sweet i'll try and get some closer pictures of the paint. I think it was painted somewhere between 88-90 but i'm not positive. Its a two tone paint scheme as you might noticed in the pictures and i think the top lighter blue color is that Ford explorer light blue, but i don't think the ford explorer was out until 90 or 91 so now i'm not sure. i'll post a new thread with the pictures.
