i did a search for this but found nothing so here it goes.

something new just showed up tonight. when i was going to stop as a stop sign i hit the brakes normally and the stereo, fan and lights cut out until i let off the brake. it did this a couple more times and then seemed to stop. then i pulled into the driveway or a friends house and it cut out again so i put it in park and it stopped. i then proceeded to shut it off and it made a funny noise like a bad buzzer. i tried to restart the van and it wouldnt even give me lights then i tried again and it took a second or 2 before it even turned over then it started.

i hasnt given me any more trouble for the rest of the night but im wondering if anyone has had this or heard of it and knows what it might be?

Thanks

Have you tried cleaning the battery cable ends and checked them for tightness??

You might need to get your alternator tested. If your alternator is okay then you have a power drain somewhere. Usually its from corroded wires from different systems touching one another and causing a conflict! Get your vehicle scanned at a parts store too, maybe a code is present.

there are currently no codes, had that checked already, i could possibly see the alternator but i have had that tested and it was fine. it only seems to be a rare occurance (only happened 2 times in the last month) but its really odd. another odd thing that happened is my speedo stopped working a week ago for the trip home but was working when i went back out about an hour later....

im wondering if its just not one of the many phantoms these things have....

Because the problem is so intermittent you may have to bite the bullet and throw parts at it. A new battery and alternator would be first. Yes, they tested good but, what were the chances they would fail at the same time as tested?

Battery cables are known to fail internally without any external signs. Have you tried moving them with the engine running? Have you inspected the ground connection at the chassy and engine? Might put them on your list.

sorry for the posting delay ive been swamped all week. im almost wondering if maybe the ecm is going bad because the speedo has drops out every once in a while as well. you are driving and it just goes from your speed to 0 then back up instantly. i might just ignore it for now and try and get something different sooner....

What year? Could it be the instrument cluster. Next time you have trouble hit the top of the dash see if that helps.

its a 97 but after this weekend im thinking about getting something else.....
it seems that my phantoms have almost doubled, for instance my rear windshield wiper is now starting to come on by itself...... maybe its possesed! :)
