Ignition Switch Question

I removed my old ignition switch and am ready to install the new one. The problem is I can't get the three wire connection out of the old switch. Do I have to have this hooked up or can I go with out it? Is that for the Passlock feature? Any help would be appreciated as I would like to get my car back together ASAP. Thanks

7. To remove the lock cylinder, put the key back in, turn it to the ON position, or second click, and then locate the little metallic tab on the switch. I honestly cant remember where it is, but its the only tab on there. You push that tab in while pulling on the key and it should slide right out.
8. The switch should be fully free now, as that last connector essentially falls out without the lock cylinder in place, but take notice of how it works so you can put it back together when the time comes.

So I got my new ignition installed and it works, but when I hook up the park/lock cable it won't allow me to get the key back out. Is there something I am doing wrong? I don't want to put the dash back together until I have this figured out. Thanks

Not sure? Did you put the interlock cable in properly? It only snaps into the switch. Maybe it is not seated correctly.

It snaps in, it just won't let me remove the key once it is clicked in place.

What if you don't put the cable in. Does it work then? If so, just leave the cable out, as long as you can still shift.

Sounds like something in the lock cylinder to me, it would almost have to be installed properly to start the car though.
What about that little tab that you push in to remove the lock cylinder? Its not stuck in is it?
This is really strange and is probably something simple, I guess if worse comes to worse you can just get a new ignition switch.....or get a spare key and leave one in the ignition:rolleyes:
