Looking to switch to Auto Meter Ultralight gauges... which ones?

Going to ditch the PI setup over the winter and go with some good 'ol analog gauges. I figure we'll need the following:

1. Tachometer w/ shift light
2. Oil Pressure
3. Oil Temperature
4. Fuel Pressure
5. Water Temperature
6. Batter Volts

Any others you can think of? Looking at the Auto Meter website they show digital, full sweep electric, liquid filled mechanical, etc. Which type do I need for the easiest intallation with the existing sensors in the car?

Can you guys post pics of your installs? Looking at the GTS pics on Panoz's website it looks like they ad an extra piece to the existing dash to mount the gauges and tach at dash level. I like that because you have no need to look down like you do w/ the PI.

I was also thinking about puting the tach on the steering shaft, but a shiflight in the upper left part of the car w/ the other gauges on the dash part.

oh and they are autometer Ultralite Pro Comp some full sweep and some 270deg sweep

Cool, but which "type" did you get... how do they hook up? How did you get a fuel level? My GTRA doesn't have anything like that.

Here are mine (several photos with description), mix of full sweep mech and short sweep electrical). Where I live/race a defroster is "manditory" (had a DNF twice because I could not see).

Did you fabricate that extra piece the gauges are mounted into or purchase it somewhere? Does Panoz sell them?

Good call on the defroster... last weekend at VIR my father almost had to skip out on the first session. The condensation burnt off just in time.

I had the local machine shop make the gauge cluster, then powdercoat everything. I used some of the old wire harness connectors so the whole dash will pop out with one electrical connection.

Mine are all electric gauges, I don't like the idea of hot fluids inside the car!

Have you considered another data logging/gauge package like Aim, Stack CDS, Motec...?

Some if them have GPS based lap timers. A predictive lap timer will give you instant feed back of how you are doing in every corner. That was my favorite feature of the Stack I had in my SRF.

Having alarms means you can focus more on the track. It's easy to forget to look at your gauges when your pushing the car hard.

I added a Autometer tach and shift light to the top of the sheet metal dash mid-season. It sits just to the right of the brake mater cylinders. Nice visibility, and no more guessing if I'm shifting at 6000 rpm.
I plan to add oil temp and pressure, as well as water temp this off season. I agree with eric1h's suggestion of all electric sensors. When the fluid lines leak, and they always do, it's very messy. I'm going to try and mount these gages just below the tach. I'll have to figure out the wiring so that everything can be removed easily.
