Aveo Manual Stuck in Reverse (After Wreck)

Hello all. I kind of drove my 2006 Aveo off the road and messed up the front a bit. Not a total smash job though, just bent up a bit. Anyway, after I did that I haven't been able to get it to shift into first or second gear and it seems to be stuck in reverse when it should be in neutral. The reverse lights are on as well. I cannot get the transmission to move up into the reverse area or move up into the first or second area, it just won't budge. However I can get it to move to third, fourth, and fifth. Once in those gears it is taken out of reverse, but will stall if I try to start off in one of the higher gears.
So, what I'm wondering is if anyone can tell from this, or if there is an easy way to tell if it is my transmission that is broken, or perhaps just the linkange is messed up. I looked under the car and under the hood and could not see any visual dammage from the wreck...all dammage seems to be with the front and hood. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Heh...yea, tree running after me.
I'm hoping that is all it is. Funny thing is that I moved the shifter around while a friend looked under the hood at the linkage and it doesn't seem bent or broken. Maybe need to take it out to see.

Just drop a bigger engine in, should be able to start in 3rd just fine then

Pull the shift cables off the transaxle and see if you can move the levers without the cables on there... will at least tell you for sure that it's in the transaxle
