Stuck in passing Gear & High Idle 1996 Grand AM 3.1L

My son drove it through a big puddle and it stalled.
After got it running for the first 4 weeks the car would intermitently aked like it would have no passing gear or was stuck in passing gear.
Now car is stuck in passing gear and idles at 2000 rpm. The computer would not communicate with scanner changed computer and no change.
HELP

How deep was the water he drove thru ??
Does it shift if you manualy shift the car ??
Iit sounds like somethings still wet. A plugin down under could be soaked and is shorting everything out.
Check the plug ins on the trans main harness, and any other that might have got wet.
Also is thier any signs of water being in the trans ??
And you might check your vacuum lines for the fast idle, one could be loose/cracked or sucked water into it.
