Anybody built the Revell 360 Spider?

I'm working on this one right now, and all I can say, is it's a terrible kit!! I've got the Tamiya kit as well, but got the Revell one cheap, so jumped on it.

Problems.
1) Stabilizing plastic left in the front windshield... while removing the 1/2 connection with the body, the body snapped! Grrr #1.

2) The top engine piece was taken straight from the Modena, and they tell you to trim it down to fit the spider, but don't give you any reference pics. While doing this their method, the brittle plastic broke again, but nothing serious. Grrr #2.

3) The rear hood doesn't open. Thanks to the FAQ, now it does. Some mods required now so it doesn't fall in. Problem is, the engine detail basically assumes you can't see the engine bay. Not sure if I'll try scratchbuilding some of the stuff missing. Grrr #3.

4) Extra plastic everywhere!!! Lots of trimming and sanding required. Grrr #4.

5) The piece you have to trim down doesn't fit the piece below it! From the Tamiya kit, I know it should be flush in some places where there is an 1/8 of an inch gap. Seems like the piece below was built in 1/25 scale while the rest of the car is 1/24. Grrr #5.



Anybody else have the same problems?

Yup, I have his kit and after about 10 min of working on it, I said "to hell w/it" and used it for parts. I hate the engine! It's like 2 pieces!!! And it sucks! From my experience w/this kit, it only makes me wonder hiw bad their Enzo will be.:rolleyes:

I will only resort to Revell if no body else makes a particular kit. If there is a kit that Tamiya have already done, then there will be no question as to which I'm gonna buy. It's a simply a matter of you get what you pay for.

I bet the Revell Enzo is going to be sooooo bad compared to the Tamiya offering.

Having said that though, the new Revell (Germany) 1/24 Toyota TF102 is not bad. I think they must've boosted their budget on that one as it is as good as the FW19 they bought out years ago. I've also noticed that they are buying/using a lot of old Hasegawa moulds too.

I bought the kit simply to see how bad it was compared to Tamiyas kit...

Ya, but this one was particularly bad. I've never had to modify a part straight out of the box just to use it on the kit! And it was skill 2, too. Riiight.

Comparing it to Tamiya is pretty funny, really. The Tamiya kills it on all counts. But it's not going to matter much for my revell. I'm probably not using the stock tires and rims, and I'll be upgrading the brakes to some slotted disks left over from the Mobil 1 NSX. :eek:

Some other one of a kind mods planned, hopefully have pics sometime after it's all done.

I'm building the Tamiya kit box-stock, probably with a factory paint colour.

Is Revell really tat bad?? i haven bought any of their kits b4...but izzit true tat their car body shell is pre-painted?

Yes, Revell is really this bad if you are used to high quality kit such as Tamiya.
Some do come like this. They are called "Pro Finish" kits that are usualy of race cars.

I've built 2 of them, I must have gotten 2 good ones. I didn't have those problems.

Is the 360 really that bad, I was going to get one...........

I've been complaining a lot about prices, but we have a Tamiya Enzo at my local hobby shop, you think I would have gotton it, but the $45 USD price tag said "NO WAY!!"

As far as the body is concerned, it's fairly accurate in comparison to the Tamiya model. I didn't pull out any calipers or anything, but dimensionally, it looks pretty good. The only inconsistency I could find was a side air duct (little one at the back or front, don't remember) being more open on the Tamiya kit.

The Revell kit is ok, it just needs some of those mods I mentioned. If you don't open the back hood, breaking the plastic a bit when modifying the Modena part isn't a big deal, you'll never see it. But if you do open the hood.....

The brakes included with the Revell kit are the sux0r. But, if you have any extra disks lying around, it's a very easy conversion.

Basically, if you want to save yourself $30 USD you buy a lot of hours in extra work for this kit. But overall, it is ok, I'm just used to the Tamiya quality.

Another discrepancy is the seats. The Revell seats are more detailed in the front, but lack any plating on the back. Putty or styrene should fix this.

The Tamiya kit comes with a (in my case, poorly) "prepainted" silver body, black, gray, and white parts, and a sheet of chrome. It also has decals and metal transfers (very nice). The Tamiya instructions are also much more detailed and better put together (despite them being Japanese, I understand a lot more from them!)
