Hey im looking to get another car been driving for a while so thinking something a bit faster than my 01 gmc sonoma lol
I was looking at the 90-92ish skyline gts-4 or gtst any opinions on these? is it worth it to get these? or should i just save up until i can afford a gtr of similar year.
i heard that the gts-4 lacks torqe with the rb20dett (not to good @ this lingo lol) so it doesnt really get much of an advantage from the awd...
throw any opinions and one thing dont sugest any CIVICS! i cant stand the cars lol

One of many great priveledges for being in Canada. I would know. I went to look at Skylines a year ago. There are quite a few companies that like to import them in for cheap, and sell them to make an additional 10K off the top. I would know because I talked to a few guys in Montreal when I went looking for one. Most are brought in for roughly 5-8K and sold for twice as much or more.
Besides that, don't waste your money on a car that wasn't manufactured here in the states. Matty once gave me some good pointers.
1. Buying a foreign car means you'll probably have to buy the foreign parts if something breaks.
2. Waiting time on parts plus cost can be more of a problem for owning such a car.
3. Some companies may have a few parts in stock, but they can charge you up the ass prices if they want as well.
Just stick to cars manufactured here in the States/Canada. It's less of a headache to deal with in the long run. Although, I can understand your itch to buy something "rare" and not seen around here, plus most of the "good" cars are offered in the States. On top of that, Canadas smog tests are a pain in the ass to deal with for boosted vehicles. That's why I registered my Eclipse in NY in stead.
As for suggestions on what to buy, there are quite a few, but it really depends on your budget. Nowadays, the "hot buy" would be the Cobalt SS/SC, Dodge SRT-4, Volkswagen R32, Ion Redline SC, or Solstice (are they offering the "boosted" version yet?).
But if you are looking for something mid 90's, boosted, and relatively cheap (and if you can find yourself a vehicle with low miles to handle you're in luck) I would suggest vehicles such as: Mitsubishi VR4, Eclipse GST/GSX, Nissan 300zx, Toyota Supra, Mazda RX-7, Dodge Stealth TT.
Then you have your options of swapping engines into vehicles. Although time consuming, the payoffs for a swap can be "oh-so-sweet". Such as the Nissan 240sx with either an RB motor swap, or an SR20 swap. Civics/Integras with a K20, F20C, H22, B18C1/5. Hyundai Tiburon with a 4G63T. RX-7 with a 350 crate motor.
I could add a few more choices, but overall, I think you get the idea. Plan it out, figure your budget, and let us know.
And Welcome to AF!

Thanks for the input as for now i have no firm budget but thinking around 6-8k right now. will always spend more on the car in the future :) so that pretty much has to get me started.
I have had my eyes on the skylines for a while although have not really heard much about them. That is a very valid point as for the cost of parts etc didnt really cross my mind. thankyou.

Glad somebody listens to me around here. :icon16:
The only factor that negates anything that I may have said in the past is if you've got what I call "FU Money".
Like, you've got so much money you can piss it away on a car that may only see the street 4 days a year. That's FU Money. Sorta like Jay Leno, he's got FU Money. He has a warehouse full of rare and stupidly expensive cars.
If you're financially set with FU Money. Then by all means... get a bitchin rare car.
But since you're posting on a site like this and drive a GMC Sanoma from the early '90s I suspect you're a hard working lazy SOB like the rest of us. Get the more sensible choice as far as play cars go. You'll thank yourself in the long run when/if something breaks... or you want to upgrade it so you can beat the guy posting next to you.

Screw the jap crap go domestic, but not crappy cobalt domestic, I'm talking a real domestic with a v8. If you want a fast import(for that price range) go eclipse or talon 1g awd, you'll have left over money for mods. But be prepared to replace the trans.

He said he had an 01 sanoma not early 90's. But still he obviously doesn't have "baller" G8 money lol!
If you want a true answer you should search with experienced skyline owners or at least with people who have actually driven one.
I wouldn't listen to anyone on this website.

Ok, early 90s.. 2001... obviously not the same year. My bad, but the actual trucks didn't change other than body panels. All the running gear was virtually the same.

Any how many skylines have you driven by the way?
I figured he would be better off asking someone experienced with these vehicles, not a bunch of magazine reading wallet tuners.

I actually HAVE driven 3 skylines here in the states... 2 r33's and 1 r32 (shh dont tell) and to be honest, i wasnt all that impressed... 1 of the r33's had some nice mods and money put into it and was a very respectable car, where-as in stock form a sr20 swapped s13 would kill it (ive see this multiple times with different s13's) i would look into other cars unless you have the 'i need a skyline because thats the taboo of car culture'

Well, if that's the case, I'll say you sound pretty ignorant. That's just going off most of your posts I've read.

I've driven 2. Shortly after I went to Montreal to price them and check a few out, I went back several months later to drive a few for shit's and giggles. They are fun, and for the technology they had applied to them was pretty impressive considering they were early 90's vehicles.
I figured he would be better off asking someone experienced with these vehicles, not a bunch of magazine reading wallet tuners.
Judging by how you "figured" he would be "better off", I'm now assuming you are pretty arrogant as well. Who said he asked you specifically anyway? This is a community, so he's going to receive multiple responses from each member who decides to share. Not like your advice is any better than anyone else here.
And, "magazine reading wallet tuners", huh? Way to fucking generalize the community members. I didn't realize you suddenly knew every member here personally. I'm just going to consider that flaming. I'll leave this as your last and only warning, say something dumb, ignorant, or incredibly stupid again, and I'll boot your ass right out the front door. That is all. Thanks for playing.

if the skyline is something you want go after it. just because it's wasn't brought to the states/canada by nissan when in production doesn't mean shit, other than it's rare. parts don't really have to come from japan, i'll bet anyone who's selling a skyline legally in canada and has more than 2 on the lot, has extra parts, and can get whatever you may need. and some parts can come from 300zx's and maxima's.
i've driven 2, and a new gtr. a r32 and an r33. r32 felt better, but it's smaller, r33 is a lil longer and higher, but for it's time and it's level, the best technology was in the skyline gtr's. o and trust me the new gtr, beyond awsome.
i'd suggest, if the skyline is something of interest, save your money, look every once in a while, and find a GTR that you really really like, options and all. spend more than 15k, it'll be worth it. i had the chance at the r33 for fair trade of my stealth and 2k, didn't take it, but i should've. and when you're done with it, let me know.

I said the same thing earlier about parts, cars and all that "jazz". But as I mentioned about parts, granted the companies that shipped those cars into the country, they may charge whatever they please because you will be in demand for them. So, like I said, parts can be costly depending on who you deal with.
A thing about R33's, they had 2 where I went, and the prices they asked were double, if not, triple the price of R32's. I'm not discriminating his choice in a Skyline, but you really have to be smart about how you go about buying a rare car. Plus, there are all the angles one has to think of as well to picking one out. Some modded, but could be abused. Some stock, but buying performance prices can cost you. Or a bit of both mixed together.
From the sounds of what the OP has in mind, I'd say go with that route. From one person who had the same idea in mind, I can tell you, detering yourself from going with a "rare" car is a smart choice. And it more than likely will save you the headaches you may encounter in the future.

i was also thinking that if he spent time saving, he might be able to manage 2 cars at the same time. and for the first few months of ownership of the skyline, just spend time going through it with a fine tooth comb. spend the huge chunk of change on the tune up, get the car on a lift and look at everything on the bottom(a PPI from a knowledgable technician mite be difficult), don't do any mods to it(maybe wheels). after all that, then begin driving it, just not daily, maybe every other day. don't listen to music, nor drive it hard, see if you hear anything out of the ordinary.
just because it's rare doesn't mean he shouldn't buy it. i looked an r32 b4 my stealth, only thing that detered me, the way it was imported(not sure if it was leagle), and NJ DMV didn't know what the hell i was talking about when i called em.
the only thing against the 240 and getting a swap, it'd be difficult to use it daily and do an engine swap. whereas getting something like the gtr, you just have to take care of it.
or check out the mitsubishi gto mr, quicker than a r32-33gtr, and just as nimlbe(mr=mitsu racing) rare, but other than tranny a standard gto tt is a parts car.
P.S. I'm a go after your dream kinda guy, not a person who settles.

Not to burst the bubble here, but considering that you looked at R32's before your Stealth, it would seem to me that you had a dream in mind to own one. But obviously it didn't work. On top of that, it seems that, if what I said is true to some extent, you pretty much contradicted your own advice.
Yes, owning a rare car is a dream, and some have the ability to follow those dreams, and others can't. Nothing more to be said about that.
In your case (vector) and mine, something detered you from owning one. Most would take that as a sign. I'm not saying don't buy one, but think of all the steps involved, risks to be taken, costs, and I do mean everything. That's what I've been saying all along.
Besides all that, I'm sure the OP has more in mind than just going the route of a 240 with an SR swap. There's plenty. Plus, if you want to advise him to own two cars, why not have a 240 with an SR swap, and have something else on the side. If not the 240, there's other options.

yea, it detered me because of the way the owner said it was imported, had it been imported in a way i thought was leagle, then it'd likely still be sitting in my driveway. and the gtr isn't really a dream car to me. it'd be something cool to own, but it's not a dream. a dream to me is an enzo or konigseeg. a gtr is atainable, just certain risks are involved with owning one in the states.
