Waving in Cleveland, OH. Mostly only with Jeeps that have mods. Stock Jeeps dont seem to wave, which is fine with me. New Jeeps never wave.

SoCal and I'll always wave to other Wranglers.
I do notice the JKs don't even look at me.
A lifted or modded Jeep will wave back.
I always check out other Jeeps for ideas!

joeyrossmiller12: lol any particular reason for not waving at the four door jeeps? I don't know if it's just me or if the newer jeeps are starting to look less and less like actual jeeps. from a distance the newer compass looks like a dodge minivan/SUV.
tomvid: too bad the new jeeps don't wave. maybe someday one will, ya never know.
dan: checking jeeps for other ideas is something i do, too. it's one of those things that you just do when you have a jeep - always room for improvement and creativity.

We wave at Wrangers when we're in our Wrangler, and usually get a wave back. We don't wave, nor do we get waves, in our Grand Cherokee.
Considering trading the GC for a new Wrangler. Just for the wave.

Nah, but we talked about it and had a good laugh...we both love and prefer Wranglers. Maybe if I double my salary - the Grand is paid for.

I'm waving in MA, but I notice that a lot less people wave during the summer than the winter. Damned seasonals. I've had a couple of very modded JKs wave to me. Not sure how I feel about that one. It seems to take away from all the hard work people put into their Jeeps when the richy rich kids up here can just pay to trick one out.

I'm surprised no one has weighed in heavily on this. Here in Michigan there is a hierarchy. This may not be totally accurate, but it goes something like this...
I'll write this from my perspective as I would be in the drivers seat of my '87 highly modified YJ, hard top hanging in the garage since the snow melted, doors off until the leaves fall, and passing by a:
JK- IF they take the time to acknowledge another Jeep, they could receive a two finger, hand off the steering wheel. Otherwise they usually get nothing.
TJ/YJ- If it's a bone stock, top up, AC on when it's 85 degrees out and sunny, they get nothing more than a single finger lift off the steering wheel.(with a shamed look to go with) If the top is down/off but the doors are on, they can receive a traditional two finger wave. If it's lifted and running something larger than a 31" on aftermarket wheel, a full handed wave of your choice can be used.
Now here is where it starts to get tricky. If they top is down, lifted, and running tires over 35"s, then it is permitted to use an arm extended wave OVER the windshield.
If they are true Jeepers, then the doors will be off. Only those true enough to the Jeep heritage can wave out the driver side. The extent of the wave and configuration of your hand is determined by how modified the Jeep is. Examples--
Stock = low toward the road with one or two fingers together arm bent.
Slightly modified = arm approx. 20 degrees below horizontal, with variable two finger placement, armd still bent but approaching straight.
High Modified = Only a well cared for, manicured, and seasoned Jeep can receive a fully extended arm, fingers in a knuckly ball holding position. The height is drivers choice dependent on how much you like the other Jeep.
CJs/Willys - Since it is almost a given that these Jeeps will not have doors on them, it is automatically implied that you give a CJ or Willys a drivers side out the door wave. Placement is your choice, but should be at a level higher than stock regardless of the modification level of the Jeep since CJs and Willys require respect NO MATTER WHAT!
I think the mods should sticky this....

I live near Gainesville Florida, and like you I don't wave to the 4 door yuppie drivers. They don't know what it is and rarely ever wave back! I have 2 Wranglers and always do it in both. Honestly though, when I lived in Pa. more people did it there!

i wave in chicago, but not to the four doors, simply because I believe that the four door was jeeps answer to the whiny soccer moms who wanted a jeep, but didn't want to lose the "minivan feel". :P you want a jeep, get a jeep, you want a minivan, go somewhere else.
and the jks know i despise them, that's why they don't wave to you guys! lol

Still wavin in WV all my friends and I wave to each other but my motto is this all modded jeeps get an extended hand wave no matter the model, stock gets the 2 or 3 finger raised and Jk and other stock models get nothing

Bought my wife a 07 4 dr Wrangler because that's her dream vehicle - big enough to haul the dogs for camping etc, drop the top whenever the sun's out (don't have the removable doors yet) and, for now, it's stock. You don't wave down here in South Florida it's your loss - problem here is people wave in too many different languages - can't understand each other! (We DO wave back when acknowledged and quite often initiate the wave.......:)).
