there was nothing wrong with my transmission that I know of UNTIL I drove it onto the interstate I was running about 60 and noticed my rpm's were very high about 4500 plus I was preoccupied and didn't realize there was a big concern so I drove it this way to the next exit about 8 to 10 miles then I pulled off and shut the engine off I let it cool for 15 to 20 minutes then I stared it up and the transmission is changing gears properly BUT is making a noise like some kind of high pitched whine, only when transmission is engaged. I don't know what happened but I may have had it in 2nd gear when I created this problem anyone tell me what I may have done to my car? IN actual terms not generic (like wow, you screwed your transmission up.)

Have you check the fluid lately? So your saying you may have had it in second gear on the interstate? As bad as that probably was it shouldn't have hurt anything. What kind of noise does it make? When does it make the noise? Does the car drive fine and shift smooth?
Also please try to use better grammar. It doesn't have to be perfect but it make it easier for us to read and understand whats going on.

Well I'll do my best, (grammer wise, I mean). Here's what I've figured out. The eclipse gs was running fine till I entered the interstate. I cut off the O/D so I could HOT ROD it a little., Well when I hit the O/D, to go into overdrive, the RPM'S did not drop actually the car did not change gears at all. I'm thinking it was 1ST not even 2ND gear. And the check engine light came on. I drove this car twice this past week a mile or so each time it shifted good just made a whining noise,(no check engine light) Today, I went to the local Cottmans transmission place. Jody the owner said my torque converter was bad because he heard the whine when the car was in park. He told me that the reason it had not changed gears is because metal trash kept a valve from closing to allow for shift ( or something like that) He said $700., I said thanks but no thanks and left. Then I accidently made history repeat itself. Since the car was running a little better, on my way home, at a stop light I hit the O/D button again. Voila!!! Instant repeat of original problem NOTHING but first gear and Check Engine light came on again. I may have messed up the torque converter BUT THIS IS THE REASON, I think?

I have found out that when you take an eclipse (automatic) out of O/D if there is a problem it automatically locks in 2nd gear and the check engine light comes on (a valve apparently is sticking) tonight that tranny is coming out I will update on what transpires from tonight tomorrow.
