1992 Ford Ranger Tailgate

I just bought a 1992 Ford Ranger and the tailgate handle isnt working, I took the handle out it is pretty rusty soaked it in some oil, it loosened up, reinstalled it but it still isnt working does anyone know how to get to the cable or rods inside the tailgate?:confused:

did you oil the latch at each end of gate then pull latch back and forth a few times?
