MAF question

I have a 1992 eagle talon n/t 4g63. I want to get rid of the 1g MAF, but I am uncertain as to what path I should take in doing so. Which setup would be a better for my car? (daily driver) The 2g MAF swap with the AFC, or the GM MAF with the MAF translator? Thanks for the input in advance.

Why would you want to get rid of the 1g maf?

Just trying to get better air flow because I don't see how air flow can be at its apex if the MAF is crammed into the filter. Using the 2g MAF or the GM MAF would put the unit after the filter allowing for better air flow. Is this not correct?

You may get a little bit more flow but I wouldn't think its worth the headache of trying to get the GM maf to work correctly. After all the car is NA and the gains would be minimal. If a 2g maf is plug and play then it may be worth it but I still dont think you will see much power.

the 2g has to have a wiring harness fabricated for it, which isn't hard at all. But there are mixed opinions about using it with an AFC and 550 injectors if one of those compensates for the other. I'm not really looking for power gain just a cleaner compartment and a better unit to work with. What problems would I face using the GM MAF if I have the MAFT hooked up to it?

Why the hell are you using 550 injectors on a NA car? I think I saw on tuners you plan to go turbo soon? Not sure if that was you or not. But the GM maf some people have problems getting everything to work properly. I dont use a maf so Im not sure about the translator and all that crap but I have heard many people having problems with it.

I'm not using 550 injectors nor am I going to. That was for turbo application. How did you get by without a MAF?

Silvr has a 420a motor that doesn't have a MAF. Only a MAP sensor.

Ok, thats what I figured, but just making sure. I just know that the 1g to 2g MAF was a common upgrade, but was wondering if swapping to the GM MAF with the MAFT would be a better way to go. Just didn't want to have to get the AFC in order to make the 2g work on my car.

You do have to consider that by changing out the maf, it'll run way leaner. I wouldn't suggest doing that, esp since you wouldn't have a way to tune for the changes.

Ok so I guess I will stick with the 1g MAF. Thanks for help it is much appreciated.

plus if you do a 2g mass u will need a 2g eprom, a 1g eprom will not reconize it and it will make ur check engine light stay on and eat gas, cause the ecm sees that there is no mass sens, not a plug and play option ive done it and seen it

All wrong, not to mention borderline illegible.

dude you don't need a 2g ecu to run a 2g mas. Infact you can't run the 2g ecu without changing everything.
