It's about 45 lbs if you remove it all, some folks leave the evaporator under the glove box and just remove the under hood bits. Go to a mechanic and have the freon removed, then just unbolt it. The compressor, which hangs off the front of the engine and is driven by a belt is the most of the weight, 25 or 30 lbs.

It's just harder to get to and weighs very little. You're also going to need a piece of ductwork to bridge the gap once you remove it.

if i just unbolt and take the hoses of the compressor wont that leak or can the hoses come off too.

You can remove the compressor and as far as the hoses go, just cut them off if you never plan on fixing the A/C in the future or selling the car to someone who lives in Arizona ;)

all done, cut the hoses took the compressor and the bracket off. the bracket seemed to weigh more than the compressor. i wonder if i can use the belt as a replacement for the alternator, they look like they are the same size. well thanks for all your help guys.
