1992 Chevy s10 load of problems , please advise...

I have a 1992 Chevy s10 with a 2.8l v6 engine. I can't get the idle to slow down. It races. I replaced the "EGR Vacuum Solenoid" like advised, but it changed nothing. I have no vacuum leaks that I can find. The EGR Valve will slow down the engine if I push the diagram up manually. I took the EGR Vacuum Solenoid and hooked up a air line from a fish tank and a valve to control the air and can slow it down a bit. but it seams like it has less power when I do that.

Next problem. The ac/heater blower. Sometimes it blows air sometimes it does not. I have changed out the switches several time. they work for a while an quit.

Next problem. It will not start on a realy cold morning or a very hot day. the temp needs to be between 70 and 90. Anything other then that and I will need a jump to start it , or I have to push start it.

I just replaced the battery after only one year. that makes 5 batterys it has killed.:banghead:

I would like to replace the throttle body with a carberator that I can control. What would you recoment to do it ? Or should I call the local auto salvage and let them just come and take it away ?
:screwy:

Any thought would love to hear from you all and see what I should do..Thanks

Have the charging system tested for proper charging and voltage.

On the idle check the TBI base gasket.

Do a vacuum leak test, then a fuel pressure test (see youtube for the fuel pressure test "Fuel pressure test")

Vac leak:
Loping idle is vacuum leak. 30 year old lawnmower, or a new car on the lot. If it sucks air where it ain't supposed to, it lopes.

Brick on pedal, block TB arm, anything to get a STEADY idle. 1200rpms or so... Feed starting fluid spray, A LITTLE AT A TIME, EVERYWHERE. Rev increase is the leak.

In a tough spot to pinpoint? Light a book of matches, blow it out while the heads are burnin', and feed the smoke to the leak.

I guarantee better running if you check these...

I just put a new alternator on it, the old one died. It run ok for a short trip. But the idle went wild on the way home. I am going to have someone look over the vacuum line and check for a leak. I did my best to find it but I have not found any. But I did notice that when I pulled on line off after the truck is turned off , it had a large amount of vacuum on the line , after the truck was turned off. Thanks for your tips, I will continue to seak and repair as I find the problems. Wes

Has the new alternator and charging system and battery been check for proper voltage and charging?
Have you checked for and cleared codes?
Have you checked the TBI base gasket?

Idle problem could be carbon buildup in EGR passages in the intake or EGR valve. worth a check anyway.

I had the same heater issue with my 92 4.3L and had to replace about 2ft of the wire from the heater motor back.

I recently had to replace my starter that was causing some charging and starting problems and found a crack in the solonoid housing and i suspect a short somewhere causing a slight drain on the battery.

I live in Minnesota and plow snow in the winter with my s10 blazer (works great for the last 8 years.) and I think the fuel injection is far more reliable. I think once you get the first issue fixed it may fix this one as well.

Just some thoughts and experiences, hope it helps.

check the tbi gasket, sometimes a piece breakes off and jams the butterfly valve on the throttle body.
