paint question

the other day i went to clean my car and i found what looked like brownish rust stains all over my car and they WOULDNT come off with soap/sponge! Nothing a mr. clean magic eraser can't fix. Even using the eraser i had to push hard on the hood. So i rinsed it off and problem solved. But today i looked at my hood in the sun and i could see the rub marks! Is there anyway to get rid of these? Would a good compounding fix this, or a simpler solution of a good waxing i could do myself?

try some 3m scratch remover. or you might just need to buff it out.remeber use the finest compund you can get. and not to be off topic but were did you get the center caps and rings?

Do you park under a maple tree? I get those spots on my cars and they usually come off with some effort when I wash them. I may try a bug & tar remover next time.

Its funny cause i dont park directly under a tree. I'll definately use bug and tar remover next time.

Maybe claybar? I hear it works wonder on water spots or tree sap. Never tried it though.

It happened overnight it seems when it was parked in my driveway. I dunno if its acid cause i dont see any left over damage other than what i did trying to rub the stuff off.

just one spot use a rubbing compound and carefully try to remove ONE spot in a small area...see if its burned into the paint... use a magnifier to see real close..

the clays are great but you need to know exactly how to use em or you will burn the paint

2000 grit, then 'Rubbing' compound, then 'Polishing' compound.

Lotsa' rubbing with the 2 compounds, light wet pressure with the paper. I guessin' that you have to rub with the rubbin compound 3 times as much than with the paper, and 3 times again as much with the polishin' compound as with the rubbing compound :eek:

I been swirlin' on my vette for 2 weeks. It is WORK, make no mistake. The parts I've finished look incredible tho'. I would NEVER have guessed it could look as it does.

oh i use clay all the time with a buffer and you can get incredible results with it. but you can also get horrible ones to. but i love the clay lol
