What do you think of the SS?

I was just wondering what you think of the Silverado SS. I think it is a really nice model and is a really good idea from Chevy. I was just wondering what true Silverado fans think about this?

I think it should be a really nice deal, unlike the 454 SS they came out with a decade ago. The only problem I see is I don't really care for AWD nor what it does for the gas mileage but other than that I can't wait to drive one!!

I like the pronounced air scoops on the lower front lip. Full-time AWD seems a little silly, though:bloated:

I like the looks of it, but it really pisses me off that it only has 345hp. How is this gonna keep up with the Lightning straight from the factory? It definately needs to be lowered more to improve the handling and looks. The wheels don't really do it for me either. Overall I like it but there is a lot I would change and wish Chevy would change the hp number.

You already got one? I don't think we have one yet... I will have to check and take it for a run around the lot.

We did get a Jeff Gordon Badged Lumina in the other day.

i dislike the looks of the ss due to its bulkiness and luxury. Now the new concept to bring out a standard cab 5 speed is what im talking about. all wheel drive is good for bad wheather but otherwise what are you gonna b doing in a truck? I will never buy an auto matic and this ss seems to be just my type.

i thin
k it should have more hp and toeqe to keep up with dodge and ford also they should have a single cab model in black with ss emblems like the old one

i agree...kinda like a big s10 with no flare...doesn't really have anything to make it stand out....like chrome rims or something.....it needs something eye-catching

I think it's beauty is in it's simplicity. I saw the that same color blue one at the NY Auto show. It could use a little more 'flare', I guess. I am waiting to see one tricked out. I'm sure the aftermarket will treat this truck well.

That's right, it's sitting in my driveway!! :D Okay, so it's the old man's truck, but still...... That thing would be a Lightning cooker if it had a supercharger, but then the gas mileage would go down to about 10 MPG, considering it's close enough to that anyway. That's why I say put a pair of nice big turbos on that thing. A pair of hair dryers would make that thing cook, and it would only burn gas when you're really stepping on the throttle. (Which would be often for me) Come to think of it, I could probably go for a pair of turbos on my Caprice......
Cab-wise, NOTHING EVEN COMES CLOSE!!!! Ford can just as well put a wooden bench in their cabs in comparison to this thing..... And it's actually got a pretty decent stereo in it too. The white gauges really do something to the dash.
I still think the boys in the shop coulda put a few more horses under the hood.......
:EDIT: I agree, a stickshift and a regular cab optoin wouldn't be a bad thing, either.

I could be biased, but I think it is great :D I got mine March 13th and it is pretty quick stock. I just added a Magnacharger Radix. Now it does 13.92@93 on the 1/4 mile, and has some room for improvement.

ShibbyPoopalot-
It's not going to be cooking any Lightnings, but I can keep up with some of the stock Lightnings (depending on who's stories you belive about what a stock Lightning will do :) ). Besides, it is better to compare it to the F-150 Harley Davidson. The mileage has not dropped that much with the supercharger, but it all depends on how heavy the foot is :sun: It still gets 16-17mpg on the flat highway, but mixed driving gets an average of 11-12mpg depending on my mood. Remember, the drag of the supercharger is minimal when not under boost, thanks to the bypass valve. But it will suck the gas when you push the pedal down !!! Besides, you don't buy a truck like this to save money on gas ;) I have had it up to 120mph and it feels very comfortable and stable.

You and your dad should come on over and visit the Silverado SS crowd at www.SilveradoSS.com

When the winter comes around the Lightining goes in the garage, while the SS keeps goin'. And the Lighting and SRT-10 Ram drive like sports cars, or so I read, and the SS just drives like a fast truck.

Relatively speaking considering how much more the SS weighs compared to the Lightning its just as quick. Car and Driver managed a very quick 14.8 quarter mile time, just one second slower compared to the Lightning. I originally thought it was underpowered but if you look at the numbers is just as fast.

I would like to see Chevy produce a regular cab/SWB SS with some real HP/Tq numbers. Something in direct competition with the Lightning.
The simple fact that the neww SS is an extended cab, with only 345hp just makes it a sporty family ride.

If GM wants to get serious, the need to produce both body styles, and boost out put of, at least, the regular truck, or both trucks.

Just my $.02

Now about this... Ive been an AVID fan of the Silverado since the new body style came out and I owned a White 99' with the 5.3. Since then Ive kept up with several articles about the SS...all the concepts that they keep coming out with sound so amazing.. The problem GM seems to be having is they DONT produce their Concepts. They DO have an SS Concept that is more geared to performance than the Sophistication that the AWD SS seems geared for. Its a 395 HP, smaller, lighter than the Lightning, Naturally Aspirated 6.0L If I remember correctly. Its supposed to have Rear-Link suspension as the Tahoe does. The idea was bench seats, little for comfort, but alot for performance. Now I had seen articles for months about it still coming out. But GM never seems to follow through with these awesome concepts. I can only hope that GM will put out the Awesome truck I know it could. A couple extra tweeks, a supercharger, even some NOS if you like it quick and easy, and Lightnings and the SRT Will just be fast boxes, while the SS will be a brutal handling, flying machine.

<This article shows the first form of the current SS's Concept, it was a unibody with an amazing 485 naturally aspirated Horsepower...(compare to the lightning needing a supercharger to do ANYTHING in any vehicles... Stangs included, and the SRT needing a v-10) Many features are in the 345 HP AWD version, and alot were shown in the 395 HP 2wd SC version I have seen(below).>

<The first SS concept, a plain looking model really, but it kicked the snot out of the Lightning of the time>

I just read in the new issue of Hot Rod Magazine that the Regular cab SS concept has been shelved by GM. They're not saying that they're dropping it, but they have no plans for production, either.
That's a shame. :disappoin

I don't think I could be more disappointed with the SS Silverado. The last thing GM needed to do was load up a heavy ext. cab truck to over $40K with AWD, leather, etc. and then drop in an underpowered (relatively speaking) powerplant. I used to have a '68 SS Camaro, and in those days "SS" meant custom stripes, badges and GO power!!!!! C'mon Chevy, if you're gonna be late to the dance, at least knock 'em dead when you get there!!!!! ...and when you show up, have a new Camaro for a date!

Well I don't really like the new SS for the simple reason that it should be a reg cab short box. Also it's the newest truck on the market and yet still slowest?? How could that be, usually the newest means best.
A guy around here has one, the truck had 34 KM on it and he removed the exhaust and installed a custom dual setup. Sounds real good now.

Where could I get the exhaust tips that are stock on the new SS? I really like the look, and would like to get 1 to make my truck look better? Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

First: For any one who thinks ALL-WHEEL DRIVE isn't good for a truck (SHUT THE FUCK UP) :smokin: True GM boys remember the greatest truck to this day is the GMC SYCLONE/TYPHOON/SIERRA-GT's. V-6 Turbocharged "ALL-WHEEL DRIVE" ring a bell? OH, but wait, you guys already know that because you're true GM boys :loser:

Second: I agree with the fact that the truck needs to have a bigger powerplant. Chevy has the 502/502 pushing 500 hp+, tune and bore, "BAM!" you have a 650hp beast laying rubber on all fours. The question isn't whether or not we will se one it is whether or not Dodge and Ford will be ready for this generations 10 year reign as the leader.

It' comming, I have my sources :evillol:

Hit me up if you have a reply
thanks

Yeah know what you mean, but wouldnt it be funner to have the luxery of switching to two wheel drive only so you can at least cut some donuts?, and control the vehicles wheel spinning yourself without the BCM saying hey they're gettin out of control lets apply some traction control to the wheels?

I don't know still haven't had a chance to drive one yet. But that is only a matter of time... eventually I get to drive just about anything we get at the dealer.

I think they should put an option with an LS7 engine with 505 HP on it so it could run better than ford and that dodge ram

Thats a sweet truck, but I agree it needs more horsepower. I do like the idea of AWD....I always did like the GMC Syclones that were AWD!
