My SES light ison and had it checked and was told it was code 1655. which was canister purge valve. What does that do and where is it located on a 1996 beretta 3.1L. And any ideas on what would cause this? The SES light came back on after being cleared after about 30 feet of driving. I don't know which way to start. Thanks in advance

my code list doesn't show a p1655 as a valid code for your car. I show purge valve related codes are in the P046X range such as follows:

P0465 Purge Flow Sensor Circuit Malfunction
P0466 Purge Flow Sensor Circuit Range/Performance
P0467 Purge Flow Sensor Circuit Low Input
P0468 Purge Flow Sensor Circuit High Input
P0469 Purge Flow Sensor Circuit Intermittent

I also show these two codes in the P16XX range relating to the evap system as follows:

P1645 EVAP Solenoid Output Circuit
P1646 EVAP Vent Valve Output Circuit

You may want to have the car scanned again to be sure you're barking up the correct tree.

A friend of mine sent me this link http://www.aa1car.com/trouble-codes/gm_codes_p1500-p1699.htm.
and it states P1655....Powertrain control module fault (quad driver 2), or EVAP canister purge valve. Still not sure what to do tho. Im assuming the EVAP since I have the 3100

Some cars, starting in '94, had DTC codes for different modules (computers) in the car.

My '94 vette has module 1 module 4, module 9, and module a. One is engine control module, another is central control module, another is ABS/ASR module, and the last is DERM module. there are a couple of number codes that are in all 4 modules.

The one your friend sent you is PCM control module. That's the same as ECM engine control module, except for GM added tranny control (electronically), and the Engine control module became Powertrain control module.

But, is the friend who sent you this the same person who scanned the car?

What is your car doing???

Autozone scanned my car and there was 2 codes.
1: EVAP small leak/no flow condition
2: EGR system fault

Except for the car surging a little when accelerated the car runs fine.
My check engine light came on and i had it checked and this was the codes.
I just wanted to know why the light came on..

Without havin' a shop manual to look at, here's what I'm guessin' is goin' on:

Every 10 minutes (or 12, or something like that), the computer tells the EGR solenoid to close, which makes a vacuum tube open.

This tube goes to the EVAP cannister which is where gas tank fumes are allowed to collect from another tube that comes FROM the gas tank.

It opens, and allows the engine to pull air through this system, all the way from the gas tank. It will only get so much air, unless there's a hole in a rubber line, or a faulty gas cap. If this happens, it won't hold proper vacuum, but keep suckin air, and the computer lights up a code.

You need to see what hoses that BOTH have in common. That is where your fault is. Many GM's draw EVAP cannister vapors through the EGR inlet.

Search for EGR EVAP routing beretta (your year) or a different combo search words, you'll be able to find enough info to know where to look.

So far I have found a vacuum line off at the purge canister. Now I got to get the code cleared to see if that solved all or did nothing. Auto Zone here will read the codes but wont clear them. So, I got to find a shop or someone with a code scanner to clear them unless someone knows of any other way to clear them. Pulling battery doesn't work.

can anyone tell me where this valve is located on a 2006 chevy silverado?
