Preignition pinging?

I haven't heard a car ping for a very long time. I've run MMO x2 tanks and now added Seafoam once. Only running Shell regular grade. Just wondering why this car pings?
Any suggestions? :sly:

It should not ping because it has a spark retard device that adjusts the timing depending upon the octane of the fuel used. I would run a tank of premium and see if it still pings.
My Intrigue doesn't ping on regular but I use premium for the increased performance and gas mileage.

How much coolant does your Intrigue consume?
(I am starting to think you should not be buying used cars that are out of warranty)
-try a decarbonator engine cleaner (does not make sense with such a low mileage car = is your odometer correct?) I may even Goto your DMV and look at the mileage numbers when titles were applied for.

Or try an octane boost additive.
Jimmy, do you actually get better performance from Premium? If you have the 3.5 L engine, I was not aware it could take advantage of a higher octane level.

Thanks guys on the suggestions.
To answer a couple of questions...
1. Someone may have recently changed the radiator fluid. I say that because after finding the bleeder valve built into the radiator, I did bleed the system and so far after several hundred miles and a week of driving, I have watched the coolant level and it hasn't moved! Not a bit! (whheeww) Thank God!
2. The mileage is accurate via Vin-check-report.
I will go ahead and try a couple tanks of Chevron/Techron Premium gas.

I LMFAO when I read your comment on buying w/o a warranty. I stopped laughing when I realized you could be on to something! :screwy:

Jimmy, do you actually get better performance from Premium? If you have the 3.5 L engine, I was not aware it could take advantage of a higher octane level.
If you get on the engine, like in passing, I can tell the difference. The 3.5 engine adjusts timing according to octane level. MPG might be a little better. Premium gas has the longer-chain molecules so it leaves fewer deposits and it usually has more additives. The result is that the valves tend to be cleaner than just usually regular, especially no-brand regular.
