Ok my husbund has a 2 wheel drive 1988 ford ranger and he is having trouble with the headlights, we have replaced the headlight switch and checked all wiring but it hasnt fixed it.. you can turn them on and sometimes they work but others they don't. sometimes when you do turn them on they are fine and then you get to going down the road and they start flickering on and off untill they go out completly.... one night we were going to town and they were working well we went to turn and he turned on his turn signal and they started flickering and went out.. anybody got any idea's. we despertly need help he leaves to go to work when its still dark out please hhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeellllllpppppppppppppppppp!!!!:m ad:

Look in the ranger column for the other post on this problem. It shows what fuses and other areas to look. I would also check for power to the multi function switch as they sometimes have loose connections. A lot of these have daytime running lights can you turn them on manually until you find the problem.

Do you only have this problem when your vehicle is moving? Try turning on the head lights with the vehicle parked, see if you get the same type problem. A truck manual may help you troubleshoot since it includes a practical electrical diagram which may help you trace the problem.

Do you have daylight running lights?
There is a cigarette pack size controller in the left wheelwell that can go bad

Look in the steering column, the switch that controls the turn signals also relays the headlights, and controls the brights. I have replaced this part twice in my 88 Ranger

Does it do it on just the dims or dims and bright? Could be a bad ground. Take a Volt Ohmeter and measure the resistance between the black wire on the headlights and the ground. If the circuit is open or has a lot of resistance run another wire from the headlight to the frame or engine.
