Hi I had a leak in the recovery tank. no overheating or other problems. i replaced the tank and cap. now there seems to be extreme pressure in the system. the temp gauge does not show overheating but engine seems hotter than normal. my main corcern is that there is extreme pressure in all the hoses. the thermostat is working. but when i run car the hoses get rock hard and seem to be close to exploding. has good circulation when you look into the recovery tank with engine running.doesnt seem to be any oil in antifreeze or any antifreeze in the oil. how do i check to see what the problem might be thank you for your help

I'm not sure you actually have a problem. Normally, the hoses will get quite hard since the radiator cap maintains the system pressure at around 16 psi. If you are afraid of it being at too high a pressure, then buy a new radiator cap. You could also have your cap and system pressure tested for peace of mind, but the cheapest thing you can do besides nothing is a new cap. What makes you think the engine is operating hotter than before? BTW, it's hard to know exactly what overflow/radiator system you have if you don't tell us what it has or the year and engine you have. The newer cars are no longer having a true radiator cap on the radiator, but instead it is on the overflow tank. They are connected as in the past with a hose, but you can no longer open the radiator, etc. Now the pressure regulator is screwed into the tank rather than the radiator.

Sorry was in such a panic about the cost of replacing head gasket I left some info out. I did replaced the cap along with the recovery tank. The tank had cracks in it and it was leaking. So maybe the high pressure was normal but I never knew it do to leak in tank. Btw its a 2002 3.0 single overhead cam.Just seems that the top radiator hose gets rockhard and even the heater hoses get super hard. Just wondering though if it was a bad gasket wouldn't the pressure just keep building and the cap would give out at 16 lbs or the hoses would eventually burst?
Also if you don't mind does anyone know the proper type trans fluid for this car 3.0 u vin thank you
