i have a 1997 chevy silverado z71 package.i have just put all new drums,rotors,shoes,pads,and calipers on it.my problem is the brake pedal still feels spongy.half to 3/4 play in the pedal.any ideas????

replacing the rubber hoses with stainless steel brake lines

did it feel spongy before repairs? it's a notorious issue, but harmless.
otherwise, got air in lines, bleed the system.

it was spongy when i did the work to it.thought that would correct the problem.i heard that this is a typical problem with theses trucks.

Make sure you adjust the rear shoes with the drum on and make sure there is a slight drag on them. That will bring the pedal up a little higher. If you were able to slip the drums on easily and didn't adjust them, that is the problem.

I agree with this..also... the drums must be adjusted to drag slightly on the shoes then back off 3-5 clicks...with all you have done the brake pedal should be high...
air will cause the pedal to have a spongy feel..
