Driveline thump

I have a 92 Regal with 139K. Occasionally when in Drive and starting to move from a stop, there is a thump from somewhere in the front end, assumedly in the drive line. If you proceed from a stop gently, it is not there, but if you hit the gas harder from a stop or if you had been stopped on a hill, you hear the thump. The transmission engages from drive to park and vice versa with a bit of a thump also, at least it is more pronounced than my other 92 Regal. Transmission shifts fine otherwise.Is this a CV joint issue, a transmission issue, or something else?
