Dating is stupid...

Why must this be so incredibly diffucult? Is there some sort of friggan secret that I need to know? There is just so much that I don't seem to understand the reasoning behind.
Take for example the courtesy of opening doors for a girl, and pulling out her chair for her, etc. To be honest, I find this "courtesy" to be quite stupid. I rarely hold the door for my guy friends. I dont open the car door for them and close it for them, and I dont pull out a chair for them when eating. Why would I do this for a female, when I dont do it for a male? Do I really want to be thinking about mating with a girl who cant even open the door for herself? Do I really want to be holding the door for her for the rest of my life? Is she physically unable to open a door or pull out her own chair? I really dont get it. The only part of this which I do understand, is that if I don't bother to do these things for the girl, I have basically no chance of mating with her. This shit doesnt really make much sense.
There is also another side to this. If you have a car like my sentra, [which does not have power door-locks and does not have central locking technology] and you unlock the passengers side first, open the door for her and close the door once she is in, would you not expect the girl to reach over to and pull up the little tab to unlock the drivers side, so the driver would not have to utilize the key to open his side? Do you understand what I am saying here? Personally, I would probably be upset if the girl didnt unlock it for me. Is she that lazy that she wont bother to unlock it for me, even after I opened her side first and helped her with her door and everything? Would I really want to spend a lifetime with a girl who is too lazy to unlock the door for me, after I was so nice to her?
And this one thing is just the tip of the iceberg. Is there something wrong with me, or is it just that dating turns out to be pure luck. Like one of my friends for instance, he did nothing to meet the girl he has been going out with for almost 2yrs. He never asked a single girl out in his entire life. So im guessing that this shit all boils down to luck, and if you are lucky enough to run into the right person, then good. Otherwise your SOL.
Dont get me wrong, im not a diehard for dating or wanting a g/f or anything (never had one but im only 20), but whenever I do get interested in any specific girl, it ends up turning into complete shit. Making me feel as though I have done something wrong when this is not so, and I have been nothing but myself the whole time.
Im sure everyone here has felt this way at one time or another. It just annoys me to no end.

Dating has its ups and downs, but doesn't life in general? I guess dating is kinda like Bi-polar disease in that the highs are higher and the lows are lower b/c there is another set of emotions playing into the scenario, but I think it's worth it. And YES, I've been shit on in a relationship, but I have learned from it.

Opening a door for a lady is being courteous, I do it for my wife. I also bring in the groceries when she goes shopping. I cook sometimes, usually when it involves bbq since thats more a mans arena, I typically give her foot massages after a long day even though I work as hard. I'm also 40 yrs old and from a different generation. My wife isn't one of these "womans libbers" and she doesn't expect to have as much of a say in choosing vehicles other then picking the color of what she is going to drive. She does my laundry. We split house cleaning chores between us. There are things she feels is a womans responsibility and she deals with them accordingly. I will always open the door for her and treat her like a lady. I always pick on her or give her a difficult time in jest but she knows that she is my lady and wife. Took me two times to get it right and I'm sticking with this one

Im not saying I wouldnt treat a girl with respect, because I would, but opening doors and pulling out chairs is something else entirely. I do understand your point tho, there are many "generational differences", for good or bad :)

You're thinking too hard about it all. These are just things you do because you're a nice guy trying to show your date a good night. They are part of life. The reward for all your hard work we shall discuss when you're older. :D ;)
Seriously, good luck with it all mate.

I love being courtious to my girlfriend, opening doors, the chair thing. All you have to do is pamper he, not baby her but be nice. I also take care of my girl when she is sick, i never leave her side, and since she lives with her parents and i with mine i just stay there till she falls asleep on me. its the little things you do that will keep you together for a long time, or hopefully forever. Now if you will excuse me i have to go buy flowers. (not kidding)

I do many of the things you've mentioned. (First wife and shes a keeper :D) I find that a curteous jesture gets returned in different ways. Rich - you'll need to do what you feel comforable with, and don't feel bad if its not what any particular girl likes. They can be just as flakey as us (or is that we) guys can.
